The Language of Flowers, Early Morning Writing, and Cheery Dispostions…

Dear Friend,

Thinking of You Week starts Sunday. Maybe you could carve out some time and pen some kind thoughts to a few people in your circle or community? You could send a note to someone you know, someone you are only acquainted with, or a total stranger. The point is to actually let them know they’ve been on your mind. I’ve included some ideas below to help you brainstorm… who have you noticed around you that might perk up by receiving your encouraging words?

What’s on my mind:

Traditionally, sending a bouquet of flowers is a way to show someone you are thinking of them. Flowers have a way of connecting us with others through the symbolism they represent and the feelings they stir. This short article explains the benefits to our well-being that flowers bring about. This statement captures the essence of the article well:

“Flowers have a unique ability to evoke feelings and convey messages that sometimes words cannot, and serve as a symbol of kindness and understanding. It can be a small but powerful way to strengthen relationships and show gratitude.”

Real Letters:

In my last newsletter, I shared how I used this collection to write ‘open when’ cards for my youngest two daughters. When I first began to brainstorm for my new Language of Flowers card kit, I knew I wanted to create stationery that was both meaningful and intentional for both the card writer and the recipient.

I chose ten different flowers that held a variety of meanings and symbolism. I illustrated both a single stem of the flower as well as a bouquet. The bouquet designs have the flower meaning printed on the back of the card.

These card kits come with a sheet the explains each flower’s symbolism, open when ideas, starter sayings (simple sentences that correlate to the flower meaning and intention for sending the card), a quote sheet and a scripture sheet (both correlate with the flower’s symbolism), and and a page to log the letters you send to whom and why. You can see the full description here in my shop.

Inspiring me today:

Earlier in the summer, I was in touch with a friend of mine who was preparing to send her oldest baby to college. She is a single mother with a lot on her plate and manages so much on her own. I decided to use a handful of my floral cards to write Open When cards for my friend to have this fall. I love that this collection can be used for any and everyone. If you know someone feeling the range of emotions that life brings, there is a card in the set that can be used!

This and That:

A fun little book full of whimsy and wisdom. I love the style of Mr. Boddington’s Studio and the charm of this book. There is an entire chapter on correspondence which is fun to read. And this would make a great gift, too!

Extras for you:

Happy Writing!

October 18, 2025 Dear Friend, I am sure you saw the recent news of the passing of Diane Keaton. She has become quite well-liked in our household over the years. The movie Baby Boom, from the 80’s, was something I often played when the girls were little and we had a lazy Saturdays piddling around the house. The Godfather was a movie of hers more preferred by my husband. And most recently, we all got into both Father of the Bride movies more than once during the wedding season we had with our...

October 11, 2025 Dear Friend, I am writing this newsletter from my mom’s house, where I have spent the last week. She is was in the hospital over the weekend and I came in to visit with her and help where I can. She is home now and we have shared lots of coffee, lots of quiet, and lots and lots of Chex Mix.😂 It’s always been something she loves and now, in her Picky Era, it is a snack she will actually eat. So… the holiday treat-making has started early for us! I had a couple of hours in the...

A cure for the Halloween Blues

October 4, 2025 Dear Friend, I love that October is here! As our girls were growing up, I always decorated quite a bit for fall, and specifically for Halloween. The way we dressed up the house was never over the top scary but was enough to bring some spooky spirit in the best of ways. Even though our nest is empty, I spent some time last weekend decking the Halloween halls for Brad and myself to enjoy. And when I sat down to savor it all at the end of the day, I had a melancholy feeling come...
